Metallic Salts(Zinc stearate,Calcium stearate,Magnesium stearate,Aluminium stearate)
Metallic stearates are compounds of metals and long-chain fatty acids. Some examples of metallic stearates include:
-
Zinc stearate
A bulky powder with a characteristic odor that is insoluble in polar solvents like alcohol and ether. It is a powerful mold releasing agent and is used in the production of PVC, polystyrene, polyolefin, phenolic resins, and fiberglass-reinforced polyesters.
-
Calcium stearate
A white powder that is an effective mold releasing agent and external lubricant in PVC processing. It also promotes fusion and is stable to heat.
-
Magnesium stearate
A metallic salt boundary lubricant that is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry. It is inexpensive, chemically stable, has a high melting point, and provides high lubrication. It is also important in protecting pharmaceutical tablets from disintegration and dissolution when they come into contact with water.
