Zinc Stearate

The chemical formula for zinc stearate is C36H70O4Zn, and its molar mass is 632.33 g/mol. Zinc stearate is a white, powdery substance with a slight fatty acid odor. It is also known as zinc soap or zinc distearate. 

Here are some properties of zinc stearate: 

  • Solubility: Insoluble in water, ethyl alcohol, and diethyl ether, but soluble in acids
  • Melting point: 130 °C
  • Density: 1.1 g/cm³
  • Flammability: Must be moderately heated or exposed to high ambient temperatures to ignite
  • Stability: Normally stable, even under fire conditions

Zinc stearate is used in many industries, including plastics, rubber, cosmetics, and construction chemicals. It is used as a lubricant and release agent, and it can also act as a stabilizer in PVC. 

In case of exposure to zinc stearate, you should: Irrigate the eyes immediately, Wash the skin with soap, Breathe fresh air, and Seek immediate medical attention if you swallow it.
